Feed Your Mind, Find Your Passion at Central European University

Central European University brings together students and faculty from over 110 countries for graduate study in a uniquely international atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas.

American university in the heart of Europe

Accredited in both the U.S. and Hungary, CEU is located in downtown Budapest, the vibrant and stunning capital city that has always been a crossroads between East and West. The university offers English-language graduate degree programs in the social sciences and humanities, business and economics, environmental sciences and policy, law, network science, cognitive science and mathematics. It draws on the research tradition of great American universities as well as the most valuable intellectual legacies of Central Europe.

International and student-focused

CEU’s diverse student body is their best asset. The university’s outstanding 8:1 student/faculty ratio ensures a dynamic environment for academic collaboration and debate. It strives to maintain a student-oriented academic culture, drawing on the wealth of knowledge and perspectives that their multicultural student community provides. The number of Filipino students has almost tripled since 2014, and CEU’s representative at this year’s EHEF Manila Fair, Kiel Suarez, is a CEU graduate herself.

Academic excellence

CEU has earned global recognition for a variety of programs, including political science, international relations, philosophy and sociology, while it continues to invest in exciting new fields such as big data, cognitive science and network science. Within the region, many of CEU’s programs enjoy premier status, including business and law. They offer three two-year Erasmus Mundus master’s programs in partnership with leading European institutions: in public policy, environmental sciences, policy and management, and women’s and gender studies.

The CEU Library has the largest English-language holdings in the social sciences and humanities in Central and Eastern Europe. Its mission is to provide exemplary library and information services in support of teaching, learning and research.

Bridging Academia and Business

Offered by the Department of Economics and Business, CEU’s highly innovative, hands-on program, BOOST (Bringing Objectives, Options and Strategy Together) helps students develop strategic and managerial skills needed in today’s marketplace. It offers six modules to participants, divided into teams based on their goals. BOOST’s activities are held around intensive Friday-to-Sunday sessions, topped off by an immersive summer experience. Its flexible, modular schedule allows students to participate without the need to change existing timetables and study plans at other CEU departments.

Be it a new technology, product, service or solution to a pressing social problem, CEU’s award-winning in-house business incubator, CEU InnovationsLab, translates great ideas into successful enterprises. It offers tailor-made workshops held by distinguished faculty, seasoned professionals and industry experts. Students also benefit from CEU’s global network of alumni to connect start-ups with key business players and prospective investors. Flagship success stories include Talk-A-Bot, a pioneering chatbot agency, and AbsoRice, a game-changing protein supplement manufacturer.

Global careers

CEU ensures that graduates are prepared to transform their CEU experience into meaningful professional engagement. CEU Careers offers guidance, support and information to students and alumni as they develop and pursue personal visions for impact and success all over the world. Their graduates are employed in the public, private, nonprofit and multilateral sectors as well as within higher education. CEU Careers works with students and alumni throughout the career development process and cultivates relationships with a global network of employer partners.

Students are encouraged to gain real-world skills through practice-based learning. Many academic departments have built experiential learning opportunities into their programs, while CEU Careers partners with students in pursuing professionally relevant internships. CEU’s Human Rights Initiative organizes the annual NGO Fair, where students meet local civic groups and international NGOs. The Academic Cooperation and Research Support Office facilitates student research and internships, and offers teaching experience for doctoral students through the Global Teaching Fellowship Program.

Scholarship opportunities

CEU is committed to attracting talented students and scholars from around the world, and provides generous scholarships available to accepted students from any country. In 2016-2017, 84% of CEU students received financial aid, ranging from tuition awards to scholarships with stipends and housing.
